KickTown's backend runs on Laravel and PHP, our default and where most of our backend hours go. But the API itself is just JSON over HTTP, and that contract looks the same whichever language sits behind it, which is exactly what makes it possible to build the same shape of backend in Node.js when a project genuinely calls for it.

That's usually a single JavaScript/TypeScript codebase end to end, an existing Node-based system you need to fit into, or real-time features where Node's event-driven model is the better fit.
