Your iOS app development partner, native when the app needs it

Person using the Change 4 Life Foodscanner app, built by Storm Digital

React Native covers most cross-platform apps well, but some briefs need to go native: deep hardware access, top-tier animation performance, or a platform feature that hasn't landed in a cross-platform bridge yet. That's when we build in Swift directly.

Pictured: the Change 4 Life Foodscanner app we built for Public Health England, which uses the camera to scan packaging and instantly break down its sugar, salt and fat content, which is exactly the kind of camera and hardware access native builds handle best.

What's included

Native gives us the most direct route to the platform, with no bridge to work around and no waiting for a wrapper library to catch up to Apple's latest release.

  • Native Swift & SwiftUI development
  • Deep hardware & sensor integration
  • Performance-critical features & animation
  • App Store submission & optimisation
  • API & backend integration
  • Ongoing support & maintenance

Common questions

Why would I need native iOS instead of React Native?

When performance or hardware access is non-negotiable: camera-heavy features, anything that needs to feel instantly responsive. For most other apps we'd actually point you toward React Native, since it's faster to build and easier to maintain across two platforms.

Do you build in Swift or SwiftUI?

Both, depending on the app: SwiftUI for most new interface work, dropping into UIKit where an older codebase or a specific control needs it.

Can you take over an existing native iOS app?

Yes, we'll get familiar with the existing codebase and architecture before touching anything, the same way we would with any handover.

How long does a native iOS build take?

Generally longer than the cross-platform equivalent, since there's no shared Android codebase to lean on. We'll scope it properly once we understand what the app needs to do.

What happens after launch?

Apple ships a major OS update every year, so ongoing maintenance is less optional than on most platforms. We build that expectation into how we support a native app long-term.
