Your headless CMS partner, one content API for every frontend

Person holding a phone showing the KickTown app, with content served from a single backend API built by Storm Digital

Every custom CMS we build on Laravel already keeps content and presentation separate; a headless setup is that same discipline taken further, with the content API serving whatever sits on top instead of being tied to one templated frontend.

Pictured: KickTown, where leaderboards, in-app store and profile content all come from one backend API, the same one a future web dashboard or partner integration could pull from without touching the app itself.

What's included

The point of going headless is that content stops being locked to one frontend. Write once in the CMS, publish it to a website, a mobile app, or both, without duplicating it or wiring up a second admin panel.

  • Bespoke content API design & development
  • Content modelling for multi-channel publishing
  • Website & mobile app frontends on one shared API
  • Editor-friendly admin, built around how your team actually works
  • Migration from an existing templated CMS
  • Ongoing support & maintenance

Common questions

Do you build on an existing headless CMS platform, or from scratch?

Usually a bespoke Laravel-based content API, since it gives us full control over the content model rather than working around a third-party platform's limits. Where an off-the-shelf headless platform genuinely fits better, we'll say so rather than defaulting to our own.

What's the actual benefit over a normal CMS?

One place to manage content that can feed a website, an app, or a partner's system, without maintaining the same information twice or rebuilding the admin when a second frontend gets added later.

Does this only make sense if we already have both a website and an app?

No. It's also worth it if a second frontend is realistically a year or two away, since retrofitting a templated CMS to serve an app later is usually more work than starting decoupled.

Can you migrate content out of our current CMS?

Yes, we'll map your existing content model across first so nothing gets flattened or lost in the move.

What happens after launch?

The API and the admin both need looking after as your content model grows, new fields, new content types, new consumers, and that ongoing shaping is part of the support relationship, not a one-off build.
